Clara B. Holmes, the only daughter of Jacob B. and Eliza J. Holmes was born in Lucas county Iowa on Sept. 14, 1862, died at the family home in Cambria, Feb 22, 1920 at the age of 57 years, 4 months and 28 days.

Clara B. or Bell as she was most generally known, spent all her life in Iowa except the time she spent with her mother and grandparents at Great Bend, Kansas, from 1876 to 1881.

In her sixteenth year she was converted in a revival meeting held near Great Bend, Kansas, and her acquaintances and friends of her later years have heard her say many times, "No matter what I may doubt, I can never doubt my conversion."

On November the 15th, 1885 she was married to Adam M. Gassett, coming with him then to Cambria, Iowa at or near which place they have since resided.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her devoted husband, her daughter and her husband, Dr. and Mrs. Sherman Opp, and little granddaughter Merna Belle Opp, besides many other relatives and dear friends.

She had been in poor health for some time, having submitted to a very serious operation less than a year ago, but since which time had seemed much better than she had been for years until just a short time before death claimed her. Her going was a great shock to the family and community.

During all her intense suffering she was always patient and was inclined to be cheerful all the time. She loved her family as only a true mother could and was most happy when doing something for others.

Her life was never lived to herself but for those who needed the help she could give.

During her recent suffering and previous to this she said, "Whatever comes is all right. If I must leave you I will go and will meet you again."

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. T. Roberts, a former pastor, from the home in Cambria, Feb. 24, 1920, and she was laid to rest in the Kirby cemetery.
