Mary E., daughter of Wm. and Mary B. Tedford, was born in Jasper county Indiana, March 31st, 1837. At the age of 16 she moved with her parents to Louisa county, Iowa. On Oct. 21st, 1856 she was married to S. J. Duncan. In 1856 they moved to Wayne county, Iowa.

In the year 1856 she united with the German Reformed Church and in later years moved her membership to the Methodist Church of Humeston, where she has lived a faithful christian life.

To them were born five children., Rosalie J. Garton of Weldon, Melissa E. Shaw of Des Moines; and A. B. Duncan of Van Wert; Hanson B and Mary R. with her husband preceded her to the better world.

She has made her home with A. B. until the last two years she has lived with Mrs. Garton.

She died Feb. 15, at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Claude Ramsey of Van Wert, aged 82 years, 10 months and 15 days. Burial was made in the Lewisburg cemetery.

She was a kind and loving mother; her whole life being given to the children and grandchildren. Her friends were known by her acquaintances.

She leaves to mourn her loss 3 children, 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
