Mary Elizabeth (Miller) Ryan was the daugher of William and Rebecca Miller. She was the second child of a family of nine, she was born at Mineral Ridge, Boone county, Iowa, March 18th, 1861, and passed away in her home in Humeston, Iowa, Feb. 19, 1920.

She was married to Lewis Stephen Ryan at her fathers home then six miles north east of Humeston on June 16th, 1882. They were the parents of ten children, four of whom proceded her in death. Those living are Mary Rebecca Hill, James William, Alice Maybelle Frary, Earl Clifford, Winnie Maudell and Ruth Waunity.

Mrs. Ryan has been a resident of Humeston thirty years. She joined the Methodist Church during the winter of 1879 and has since that time been regarded as a christian woman.

Sone eight years ago she was in a runaway accident and since then has never had good health. The immediate cause of her death was from a cancer from which she suffered greatly. Mrs. Ryan was 58 years, 11 months and 1 day of age. After great suffering she passed away at 2:30 P. M. Feb. 19th. The services were conducted by Rev. J. S. Young and the interment was in the Humeston cemetery.
