Lucy Jane Poland was born in Wayne County, Iowa, July 7, 1874, and died at her home in Wayne county June 1st, 1920, at the age of 45 years, 10 months and 24 days. The deceased has spent her entire life in this immediate neighborhood. She was converted about twenty-five years ago and united with the Unity Baptist church, of which she had been a faithful servant of the Master until He said "it is enough come up higher."

She was united in marriage to W. W. Wilmot March 23, 1904; to their union were born four children, two sons and two daughters, one daughter Susanna, dying in infancy. The two sons, Hamilton and Mark and the daughter Neoma, the husband and one brother, C. R. Poland and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Larkins of Humeston and Mrs. Mary Baltimore of Mulhall, Oklahoma are left to mourn her untimely demise, besides a host of relatives and friends.

The funeral services were conducted from the Unity church by Rev. M. S. Clark of Chariton. The pall-bearers Wm. Larkins, M. J. Carter, Alva and Dwight Wilmot, Johnny Ellis and Claude Able, all brothers-in-law to the deceased, bore the remains to the last resting place in the Green Bay cemetery. Special music was rendered, with Mrs. Verdie Goudy at the piano and Mrs. Gertrude Surbaugh, Mrs. Mary Beal, Holly Garton and Ray Evans rendered the vocal music.

The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.
