Milda Jane Smith was born near Salem, Fountain county, Indiana, Nov. 14, 1837 and died Sunday morning at 2:30 o'clock, Dec. 19, 1920 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Crow of Bedford, Iowa, where she was spending the winter. Her last illness continued for a month during which she suffered from a stroke of paralysis, dying from the effects there of one week later.

Mrs. Smith was married to Mayfield Smith Aug. 4, 1859. To this union were born six children, two of which died in infancy, the others being Mrs. Frank Crow, Bedford, Ia., Miss Francis Smith and Mrs. Flora Blondin, both of Humeston, Iowas, and one son, Wm. Smith who died Aug. 16, 1889.

Grandma Smith, as she was familiarly known, is survived by three daughters, one sister, Mrs. Reynold of Denver, Colorado, an only grandchild, Mrs. Frank Palmer of Humeston and two great grandchildren, Ardyth and Ferrline Palmer.

The body was brought back to Humeston Monday. On Tuesday at 1:00 o'clock, after funeral services conducted by the writer at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Blondin, the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Last Chance cemetery. J. D. Pontius
