Carl Cravens Petty, aged thirty-five years, was run over by a train about a mile north of Lineville on the night of December 5 and was so badly cut to pieces that identification was almost impossible except circumstantial evidence, a man having seen him walking out of town toward his parents home about 11 o'clock. The tragedy was discovered next morning about eight o'clock by two neighbors walking along the railroad tracks and the coroner summoned; a jury of three decided that he "came to his death by accident on the railroad tracks at a point north of the railroad crossing, just north of Lineville."

Funeral services were held at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Petty two miles north of Lineville on Monday afternoon and burial made in Evergreen cemetery. He was the only child of his parents who are reaching old age and they have the sympathy of many in their loss.
