Reid McCall Baker, son of Holleck and Ufa (Elder) Baker, was born in Allerton on August 21, 1922 and passed away at the Decatur County hospital in Leon April 21 at the age of 42 years and 8 months. He attended high school and graduated from the Allerton school in 1940.

His entire life was spent in Wayne county where he farmed except for 26 months he spent with the United States Army, from 1944 to 1946 in the Philippine Islands and Japan.

On January 1, 1951 he was united in marriage to Dorotha Marie Boyce. To this union two children were born, Janet Elaine, age 12 and Kenny Dean, age 9.

On January 8, 1950 he united with the Allerton Presbyterian church. He was ordained on March 9, 1958 as a ruling elder and had continued to serve faithfully in this office until February 1965. His last official duty as elder was on January 10, 1965 when he assisted in receiving his own daughter, Janet into church membership. He was one of the committee chosen to interview and invite the present pastor to come as a candidate to this church. He served as church treasurer for thirteen years and as Sunday School superintendent the past two years. He will be greatly missed in church activities as well as other community affairs.

Surviving are his wife, Dorotha; one daughter, Janet and one son, Kenny; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Baker; one brother, Keith of Des Moines and one sister, Luree Straup of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Boyce; three nieces, five nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts and a host of other friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, April 24 at the United Presbyterian church in Allerton with the Rev. Bonnie Rateike officiating. Mrs. D. M. Crawford played the piano and accompanied Mrs. Arthur Swanson and Miss Carolyn Harberts as they sang favorite hymns. Marcella Cobb, Helen Elder, Eloise Erickson, Margaret Shipley, Norma Jean Reynolds and Dotty Shipley were in charge of the flowers. Pallbearers were Clifford Shipley, Eugene Hamilton, Glen Hamilton, Richard Hamilton, Jim Hamilton, and Maurice Elder. Interment was in the Allerton cemetery.
