Hattie Ellen Whiteman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Whiteman, was born in Logan County, Illinois, April 3, 1861, and departed this life February 10, 1925, aged 63 years, 10 months and 7 days. When a young woman she moved with her parents near Glen Elder, Kansas.

She was united in marriage to Valentine Morris July 27, 1879, and a few years later they moved to Missouri, then to Wayne County, Iowa, where most of the remainder of her life was spent. Ten children were born to this union, four having preceded their mother in death. The husband and following children were at her bedside during her last illness; Mrs. Eva Redding, Mrs. Belle Bomar and Mr. Henry Morris, all of Des Moines; Harley of Corydon; Evan of Harvard; and John of Cozad, Neb.

The deceased leaves to mourn her loss her loving husband and children, one sister, three brothers, seventeen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

At an early age Mrs. Morris confessed her faith in her Savior and was ever ready to help where she could. She had been afflicted for a number of years with rheumatism which made it difficult for her to get about. She and her husband had been making their home with their daughter Belle, for some time, and Mrs. Morris was taken seriously ill with asthma at the home of a friend, Mrs. Whittiear of Des Moines. Her suffering was intense, but her illness was of a short duration. All that loving hands and medical aid could do, was done, but to no avail. her master called her home.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Corydon, Iowa, on Thursday afternoon, February 12th, conducted by J. Newton Sours. Burial was made in the Shriver cemetery at Harvard.
