I knew something was familiar about the Powelson name. I sent info to someone back in August on this family via the WCGS Library as follows:

I reviewed records at the Washington Co. Genealogy Society Library regarding Thomas and Sarah Powelson and Paul and Mary Powelson. No birth, death or burial records were found for them.

There were tax records for Thomas Powelson in Iowa Township, WASHINGTON Co. for 1861-1867 and 1895. Also the Atlas and Plat Book for WASH. Co., IA, 1874 & 1897 shows property for Thomas Powelson (100.5 acres) in Township 77, Range 6 West (eastern point of Iowa Township). Iowa Township, Washington Co is on the border with Johnson Co.

The 1885 Census for Hardin Township, JOHNSON Co. shows Thomas, Sarah and some children and Paul and Mary with a son.

A listing of Early Marriages (Book 3, Page 1-6) for JOHNSON Co shows Thomas Powelson and Sarah Boos married in 1859.

I did find burial records for people I believe to be Thomas and Sarah Powelson’s children at Riverside Cemetery: Cyrus born 1 Feb 1873 died 13 1880; Joseph Sep born 9 Mary 1877 died 17 Sep 1880; Martha died 7 Nov 1880 aged 17 yrs, 8 ms, 6 ds; and Eliza Jane died 7 Sep 1880 aged 10 yrs, 10 ms, 24 ds. There is a Martha Powelson, Wife of T. Powelson, 1834-1856 also buried at Riverside.

Thomas and Sarah are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Wesley Kossuth County. See find a grave for the Powelsons (link included below). Did not find any burial records for Paul and Mary.

There are State & Fed Census records for Thomas Powelson and family: 1856 WASHINGTON Co. - Thomas (26) and Martha (20); 1860 Iowa Township, WASHINGTON Co. – Thomas, Sarah (18) and Paul (8/12); 1880 Hardin Township, JOHNSON Co. – Thomas (50), Sarah (39), Paul (21), Martha (17), Melvin (13), Margaret (11), Eliza (9), Cyrus (6), Calven (5) and Joseph (3). Did not find 1870 census record.

There are State & Federal Census records for Paul Powelson and family – all in MINNESOTA (1900, 1905, 1910, 1920, and 1930).
