Mrs. Elsie Hess, 90 dies in Iowa City

KALONA - Mrs. Elsie V. Hess, 90, of route one, Parnell, died Monday evening, Sept. 8, 1975, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. She had been ill for three weeks.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Peterseim Chapel in Kalona with Dale Knowles officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Iowa City. A memorial has been established to Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Mrs. Hess was born Dec. 25, 1884, in rural Johnson County, the daughter of James and Lina Stalder Cupp. She attended school in the Kalona area. In 1904 she married Lewis P. Hess in Iowa City. He died in 1961. She had lived all her married life on their rural Parnell farm.
Survivors include one son, Victor of rural Parnell; four granddaughters; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Willis Cupp of Moline, Ill., and Arthur B. Cupp of Antionoch, Calif.; and one sister, Bessie V. Newman of Prescott, Ariz.
