RICHMOND - Roy J. Kallaus, a lifelong resident of the Richmond area, died, Thursday evening at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City where he had been a patient since Sunday.
Requiem mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Church at Richmond, with burial at the church cemetery. Prayer services will be held at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Peterseim Chapel in Kalona.
Mr. Kallaus was born Feb. 13, 1897, near Riverside, son of Edward J. and Julia Shalla Kallaus. He was married to Maude Welte.
He was a World War I veteran and a charter member of the American Legion Post at Kalona. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Mr. Kallaus had been employed 36 years by the Washington County maintenance department, retiring four years ago.
Surviving are his widow; four sons, Norman of Iowa City, Robert of Redwood Falls, Minn., and Thomas and Gary of Richmond; six daughters, Mrs. Loran Spicher and Mrs. Thomas Hofer of Iowa City, Mrs. Richard Berry of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Everette Hershberger of Fort Madison, Miss Jane Kallaus of Boston, and Miss Louise Kallaus of Richmond; three brothers, Glen of Iowa City, Charles of Davenport and Merle of Kalona; and two sisters, Mrs. Fred Klein of Iowa City and Mrs. Katherine Prebyl of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by a sister.Funeral Card
