Services Friday For Former Postmaster

Funeral services for former Postmaster, John R. Shebek, aged 54, were held Friday, January 12 at 9:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church with Father W.F. Boeckman officiating.

Mr. Shebek died at 1:45 Wednesday morning at his home in Riverside where he had been a lifetime resident. Death was due to a heart aliment.

He was born in Riverside, October 23,1907, the son of John A. and Elizabeth Schnoebelen Shebek. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School and a member of St. Mary's Church.

On June 19, 1944 he was married to Dorothy Thomann.

Jack began work February 16, 1931 as a clerk at the local post office and was appointed acting Postmaster, June 30, 1943. He received his commission as Postmaster May 10, 1944. He retired April, 1959 because of ill health.

Survivors including his wife, a son Johnnie, two daughters, Beth and Janice, all at home; two sisters, Mrs. Geneva Schnoebelen and Miss Zelda Shebek; two brothers, Bert and Walter, all of Riverside; also an aunt, Sister Gregory C.H.M., Ottumwa Heights, Ottumwa, Iowa.

His parents preceded him in death.

The rosary was recited at 7:00 and 8:00 o'clock Thursday evening at the Sorden and Adams funeral home. Sorden and Adams were in charge of arrangements. Burial was in St. Vincent's cemetery.

Casket bearers were Edward and Paul Shebek, James Schnoebelen, Leo Huffman, Robert Homer and Stephen Thomann.
