Emma Barnes was born in Pennsylvania July 4, 1845, and died in Riverside, Iowa, January 26, 1911, aged 65 years, 6 months, and 22 days. She was twice married, first to a Mr. Burris by whom she had 6 children, 3 sons and 3 daughters. One son died in infancy, one Theodore died recently in California, one son William lives in Council Grove, Kansas. Gladys died in California a few years ago. Lulu, Mrs. Reynolds resides in Davenport. Estella, Mrs. S.J. Boller of Iowa City besides these, her second husband Leonard Burris and 2 grand children survive her. When six or seven years of age her parents moved from Pennsylvania to Grand View, Iowa where she resided until 25 years ago, when she and her present husband moved to our town. She was a quiet, unobtrusive woman, a splendid home woman, always at work at something useful and a good neighbor. She was a sufferer for more than two years with a kind of paralysis. Short funeral services were held at the house on Saturday at 2 p.m. by Rev. A.L. Jordan of the M.E. church after which her body was laid away in our beautiful city of the dead.
