Oris Coop rites set Tuesday

Oris L. Coop, 70, 801 W. Briggs Ave., died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson County Hospital.

He was born Feb. 17, 1917, north of Unionville, the son of Tommy and Lecta Doll Coop.

He married Beulah E. Sheperd, Nov. 4, 1939, in Bloomfield. She survives.

Coop moved to Fairfield from Davis County in 1958. He was a mechanic for several years and retired in 1971 from Rockwell Standard. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Blakesburg.

In addition to his wife, Coop is survived by four sons, Winfred, of Des Moines; Ivan, Pulaski; Kenneth, Ottumwa; Dennis, Newhall; and three daughters, Dorothy Hoffman, Ottumwa; Nellie Lemley, Fairfield; Carolyn Coop, Fairfield. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Ann Marie McClure, Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by one brother, Winfred.

Funeral services for Coop will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Ogden officiating.

Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery west of Bunch. Family visitation will be 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A memorial will be established by the family.
