Ruth P. Cherry

WASHINGTON, Iowa - Ruth P. Cherry, 80, of Washington died Thursday morning, Aug. 8, 1991, at United Presbyterian Home.

Cherry was born Oct. 16, 1910, in Chicago, the daughter of Harry and Grace Mullenix Kerr. She was reared and educated in Fairfield, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1929.

She married Jack Cherry on Aug. 20, 1929, in Lancaster, Mo. He died in 1979.

Cherry was a home maker and worked 20 years at Montgomery Ward, retiring in 1972. She had lived in Washington since 1950.

Surviving are four children, Ralph "Jerry" Cherry of Sissionville, W.Va., Jean Ann Earll of Hiwatha, Carolyn "Kay" Thoma of Orange, Calif., and John Cherry of Conesville; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley Vannatta and Dorothy Champ, both of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home in Washington, the Rev. Richard Boyd officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Elm Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to United Presbyterian Home and First Christian Church.
