Engel rites at Libertyville

LIBERTYVILLE - Joseph E. Engel, 75, Libertyville, died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville with the Rev. Shirley Meendering officiating. After cremation, ashes will be buried in Grace Hill Cemetery northwest of Brighton. A memorial has been established to Faith United Methodist Church. Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.

Engel was born April 4, 1912 at Grace Hill, the son of Wesley and Lucy Mae White Engel, and grew up in the Brighton community. He married Mary McElderry march 16, 1941 in Ottumwa. They lived in Alaska form 1947 to 1955, when they moved to Burley, Idaho, where he worked as a custodian at the post office and schools until his retirement. They returned to the Libertyville area in 1974. He was an Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of Faith United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Charles of Fairfield; a daughter, Lunelle McClimans of Kimberly, Idaho; three grandsons and a sister, Mabel Guy of Washington.
