Howard Zihlman

BRIGHTON - Howard Zihlman, 87, of Brighton, died early Sunday, March 24, 1996, at Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa. He had been in failing health.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, with the Rev. Mark Young officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery at Brighton. There will be no family visitation. A general memorial has been established.

Zihlman was born March 1, 1909, in Brighton, the son of Andrew L. and Ada Bales Zihlman. He grew up near Brighton, attended Spring Creek rural school and graduated from Brighton High School in 1928. On June 30, 1934, he married Geneva Eyestone in Rock Island, Ill. He worked for a short time for Dexter Company in Fairfield, and for Farmall in Rock Island for eight years before moving to the farm in 1941.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Phillip of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl of Chicago; three sisters, Dorothy Bulmer of Midland, Mich., Grace Ubele of Burlington, Wis., and Edith Moore of Camarillo, Calif. A sister, Lucille Schmidt, preceded him in death.
