Benda Rites At Brighton

BRIGHTON - Washington County authorities today said Leo John Benda, 73, died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds at his home in Brighton about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. He was a retired farmer.

Funeral services will be held at the Gould Funeral Home in Brighton on Saturday at 10 a.m., with Fr. Louis Leonhardt officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton.

Benda was born June 24, 1900, in Jefferson County, south of Brighton, the son of Joseph and Emma Kurtz Benda. He was married to Lois Elizabeth Ingham, May 2, 1929. He spent his entire life in the Brighton and Pleasant Plain communities.

He is survived by his widow, ond daughter, Mrs. Paul (Evelyn) Liles of Libertyville, one son, Robert Benda of Brighton; three grandchildren and five brothers, Francis and Albert Benda, both of Fairfield; Clem Benda of Pleasant Plain, Max Benda of Brighton and Joseph Benda of Baton Rouge, La.; and two sisters, Sister Mary Constance of Davenport and Mrs. Raymond Minich of Washington.

He was preceded in death by one son, Richard and his parents.
