Death Takes M. Dickinson

BRIGHTON - Merle E. Dickinson of Des Moines died suddenly at his home the morning of July 23. The body is at the Gould Funeral Home in Brighton where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday morning with Rev. Wilson Hyde officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest cemetery in Brighton.

He was born May 9, 1919 the son of Cy and Ethel Robertson Dickinson at Brighton. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy and was stationed on the USS Arizona at the time of the Pearl Harbor bombing and was one of the few survivors. He was an electrician by trade.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Crossett, Iowa City; Mrs. Jean Barthalow, Iowa City; Mrs. Jane Soporita, Denver, Colo., and Sara Dickinson of Iowa City. Four grandchildren and one brother, Glenn Dickinson of Sigourney and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Elliott of Phoenix, Ariz., also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents.
