Rex E. Widmer

BRIGHTON - Rex E. Widmer, 73, of West Chester, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 9, 1996, at his home. He had been in failing health.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton. Prayers for a Christian wake will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, followed by the Rosary by the Knights of Columbus, then family visitation. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.

Widmer was born at Mount Union in Henry County, the son of John E. and Mae Edwards Widmer. he was raised in the Wayland and Crawfordsville areas and graduated from Brighton High School in 1942. On May 8, 1946, he married Mary Darlene Meuth in Brighton. He farmed in Jefferson and Washington counties, was a mechanic for International Harvester in Washington, Iowa, and Wellman, and worked for Northrup King Seed Co. for several years. he was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wellman and Knights of Columbus, a member of Washington Train Club and West Chester Lions Club.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Larry G. of West Chester; a granddaughter and a stepgrandson. His parents, an infant son, Gary, and an infant daughter, Beverly, preceded him in death.
