Eugene H. Mann

BATAVIA - The service for Eugene H. Mann, 86, of Des Moines, formerly of Batavia, who died at 12:35 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 1996, at Ramsey Home in Des Moines, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Batavia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tony Puliate officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery at Brighton. Open visitation begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 that night. A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association.

Mann was born Feb. 1, 1909, in Brighton, the son of John and Minnie Hyde Mann. He was reared and educated in Brighton, graduating from Brighton High School in 1928. On April 2, 1932, he married Esther E. Allred in Wayland. She died Sept. 6, 1988. He farmed for most of his life in the Batavia area and was a member of Batavia United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Gerald and Harold, both of Urbandale; a daughter, Mary Jo Sloan of Ridgefield, Conn.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A sister, Rhua Davisson, and two brothers, Ralph and Homer, preceded him in death.
