Jean Eleanor Hesseltine, age 76, of Wayland, Iowa, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at her residence following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Colton Clay officiating. Visitation will begin 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Wednesday evening. Interment will take place at Sandy Hook Cemetery in rural Brighton, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Washington County Hospice. Jean was born May 25, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Lee and Myrtle (Saville) Hesseltine. She graduated from Washington High School in 1954. Jean was united in marriage to Wayne L. Hesseltine on June 29, 1972 in Rock Island, Illinois. .

Jean worked as a nurses aide at Pines Rest Home in Washington, Iowa and later worked at Perfex in Washington for five years. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she was church organist for many years. She enjoyed painting ceramics and embroidery. Jean was an avid Iowa Hawkeye sports fan and loved visiting and spending time with her family.

She is survived by daughter, Rhonda Woods and husband Dave of Crawfordsville, Iowa; daughter Pam Zielstorf and husband Dennis of Brighton, Iowa; son Steven Kerr and wife Jennifer of Avoca, Iowa; daughter, Christine Kauffman and husband Chad of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Diane Ritter and husband Craig of Greene, Iowa; daughter, Sharon Pootz of Missouri; son, Elijah “Freeman” Sinker of Wayland, Iowa; son, Terry Hesseltine of Washington, Iowa; son, Jody Sinker of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Dawn Vasquez and husband Daniel of Washington, Iowa; 40 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; brother, Charles Hesseltine of Burlington, Iowa; and special friends, Sandra Smith and Mike Van Osdol.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne in 1994; son, Leonard Duane Kerr; and granddaughters, Bambi Johnson and Dee Dee Goodwin.
