Barney Mattison dies Sunday

KEOTA --- F. A. (Barney) Mattison, 72, of Keota, died Sunday, Dec. 11 at mercy Hospital in Iowa City, where he had been a patient for three weeks.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the United Presbyterian Church in Keota with Rev. Eugene Blake in charge. Burial will be in Keota Cemetery. Visitation begins Tuesday at the Powell Funeral Home and the family will receive visitors Tuesday evening. A memorial has been established to the United Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Mattison was born in Keota Oct. 24, 1911, the son of Charles H. and (Clara) LaVina Dowis Mattison. He went to school in Keota and married Cora May Eakins in Ottumwa, Sept. 27, 1933. He operated the Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America in Harper until his retirement in 1973.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Cora; three daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. Henry) Williams of Harper, Carolyn (Mrs. Cleveland) Stickrod of DeWitt, and Marjorie (Mrs. Michael) Craven of Columbus Junction; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, an infant sister, and three grandchildren.
