Dorcas M. Barr dies in Iowa City

Dorcas Marie Barr, 83, of Washington, died Dec. 14, 1983, in Mercy Hospital at Iowa City. She had been seriously ill the past six weeks.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Sherman-Eden Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph Pyle of the First Assembly of God Church will officiate, with burial in Green Mound Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Mini-Bus.

Dorcas Ball Barr was born Sept. 21, 1900, at New London, the daughter of George William and Anna Louise Frankson Ball. She was reared and educated in Henry County. On Dec. 14, 1929, she married Jess Barr at Mt. Pleasant. He died April 8, 1962.

Mrs. Barr was a housewife and had resided in Washington since 1944.

Surviving are four daughters --- Wynona (Mrs. Rodney) Woods, Vada (Mrs. Gordon) Secrest, Alice (Mrs. Jim) Hesser, all of Washington, and Hazel (Mrs. James) Sinn, Wayland; two sons, George William of Washington, and Roger of Keota; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Barr was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a grandson.
