Bernice Maas rites held in Kalona

KALONA --- Gravesides rites for Bernice Maas, 88, Fort Worth, Texass were Monday, June 7, 1987, at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona under the direction of the Peterseim Funeral Home.

The Rev. James Fouke officiated at the services.

Mrs. Maas died June 4, 1987, in Fort Worth where she had lived the past six years. She formerly lived in Kalona and Iowa City.

She was born Sept. 8, 1899, to Charles and Betsy (Lester) Holmes in Iowa City. She married Milton Maas and he died in 1954.

Mrs. Maas was a 50-year member of Naomi Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Kalona and was also a member of the White Shrine.

Survivors include two daughters, Eleanor McFarland, Fort Worth, Texas, and Waucile Smith, Liberty; one son, William Maas, Rogers, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Charles.

Eastern Star services were Sunday, June 6, 1987, at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona.
