Marguerite A. Snider

Marguerite A. Snider, 84, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, with the Rev. Ed Philgreen officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

Visitation begins at noon Sunday at the funeral home, with the family present from 7-8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association.

Mrs. Snider was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Washington County, the daughter of Denis and Bessie F. Park Brohm. She married Eugene Ray Snider July 26, 1939, at the chapel of the Methodist church in Washington. He died in 1963.

She was a resident of Washington since 1963. She formerly lived in Fairfield. She graduated from Washington High School and from Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. She became a teacher at the Black Hawk and Franklin Schools.

She was a housekeeper and childcare provider for Robert and Ellen Reed, Don Rich family, Mike and Donna Orris, Logan and Wilma Hielman and Grant and Bessie Humble. She also was employed at Eden Funeral Home as a receptionist and worked at Washington State Bank in estate preparation and the United Presbyterian Home as a housekeeper and cook. In her earlier years, she sold greeting cards in Fairfield.

She was a foster parent.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a member of the PTA and the Ladies Aide Society while living in Fairfield. She sang with the Washington Community Y and was an honor student and a lifelong learner.

Survivors include one son, Dale A. Snider of Elizabeth Lake, Calif.; three daughters, Kay M. Sonderberg of Coralville, Ruth A Brock of Washington and Mary S. Bell of Iowa City; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one twin sister.

In addition toher husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.
