Wanda S. Day

Wanda S. Day, 80, a former resident of Brighton, died Monday, May 27, 2002 in San Antonio, Texas.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Gould Funeral Home in Brighton with the Rev. Richard Dunn officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton.

Open visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Family will greet friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the funeral. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.

Mrs. Day was born February 23, 1922, in Brighton the daughter of Frank and Minnie Parker Smith. She married William K. Day October 20, 1940.

She lived in Michigan with her husband until 1948. She worked as a lathe operator during World War II. She attended Ottumwa Heights College in the early 1970s and was then hired as a secretary for the Washington County Public Health Nurses. She retired in 1983 and began spending her winters in Universal City, Texas.

Mrs. Day was a housewife, gardener and professional seamstress.

Survivors include her husband of Universal City, Texas; two daughters, Ida Mae Day of Solon, Minn. and Rebecca Ann Kirfman and husband, Glen, of Gladstone, Ill.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mildred Swisher and three brothers, Doyle, Lyle and Glen Smith.
