Alma P. Batterson

Alma P. Batterson, 75, of 910 E. Madison St., Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002 following a lengthy illness.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, with the Rev. Don Hodson officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington.

Open visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Eastern Star Service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A general memorial has been established.

Mrs. Batterson was born June 3, 1926, in Ainsworth, the daughter of P. Earl and Mary R. Wilkinson O'Connor. She married Don Batterson Nov. 20, 1943 in Washington, Iowa.

She graduated from Ainsworth high School in 1943.

She was a homemaker and served as business manager at the Washington County Hospital for 27 years.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, past president of Fortnighty Club, a member of the Damscus Shrine and Rainbow leader. She was an avid bridge player.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Donna R. Waddell of Jeffersonville, Ind., Patricia J. Peiffer of Coralville and Raberta L. Schafer and husband, Russ, of Fairfield; three sisters, Mary Meeks, Audra Williams and husband Keith, and Ann Brock and husband, Wayne, all of Washington; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter.
