Karel ‘Festus’ Farrier

BRIGHTON—Karel “Festus” Farrier, 66, of Washington, died Jan. 23, 2201, at his home.

The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at the Washington Church of God, with the Rev. Dean Elmore officiating, followed by military rites and family visitation until 8:30 p.m. A memorial has been established to the Iowa City V.A. Medical Center.

Mr. Farrier was born May 10, 1934, in rural Washington, to Floyd Eugene and Francelia Zella (Dickinson) Farrier. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1953. He married Geraldine Chalupa in Monmouth, Ill., in 1959. The couple later divorced.

Mr. Farrier lived in Burlington for approximately 10 years before returning to Washington upon his retirement in 1985. He was an Army veteran and an over-the-road truck driver for Rock Island Motor Transit, Arledge Transfer and Pacemaker Buildings. He was a member of the Washington VFW and Des Moines Teamsters Union Local No. 147.

Mr. Farrier is survived by his friend, Geraldine Farrier; two sons, Kim Farrier and wife Terri of Washington and Kelly Farrier and wife Bambi of Washington; one daughter, Karla Farrier and Paul Beliel of Wayland; four grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Farrier of Brighton and Kermin Farrier of Ottumwa; and one sister, Donna Goss of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Keith; and one sister in infancy.
