Mrs. Messenger, 82, dies here today

Mrs. Charles E. Messenger, 82, of 732 South Seventh Avenue died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1963, in Washington County Hospital, following a serious illness.

The funeral arrangements were indefinite today, but will be handled by Jones Funeral Home. The Rev. W. J. Stevens will be in charge of the rites, with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Phianna Abigail Hopkins was born at Crawfordsville Feb. 13, 1881, a daughter of Thomas M. and Sarah Rummerfield Hopkins. She was reared at Crawfordsville and married June 25, 1901, to Charles E. Messenger. He died Sept. 17, 1949.

She was a member of the Christian Tabernacle.

Survivors are these children: Harold Messenger, Mrs. Glenn (Christie) Miller, Mrs. June Griffin, Mrs. Edd (Genevieve) Garrett, Mrs. Paul (Wilma) Martin, Mrs. Dorance (Osie) Arduser, all of Washington, Emmett E. of Davenport, David M. of Keota, Otis of Ft. Madison, and Clarence of Rangely, Colo. Also surviving are 38 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Hopkins of Brighton and Albert Hopkins of Washington; and two sisters, Mrs. Etta McConaughy of Galt, Calif., and Mrs. Bertha Newquist of Lodi, Calf.
