43-YEAR RESIDENT OF OTTUMWA IS DEAD

Mrs. Effie E. Ball, 84, of 707 Boone avenue, died at the St. Joseph hospital at 5:15 p.m. Thursday. She had been a resident of Ottumwa for the last 43 years, and had lived to know 30 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She was born in Fulton county, Ill., September 26, 1857, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Hagans. She was a member of the Finley Avenue Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Essie Counterman of Ottumwa and Mrs. Bessie Schmitt of Washington, Iowa; two sons, John Drenner of Ottumwa and W. F. Stockman of Brighton. In addition there are 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a husband, Clark, on October 4 of this year, and also by a son and daughter. All 12 of her brothers and sisters also had preceded her in death, leaving her the only remaining member of her family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the First Church of the Open Bible, conducted by the Rev. L.E. Welshons and the Rev. V.F. Currier. Burial will be in Hillcrest cemetery at Brighton.

The casket will be taken from the Johnson funeral chapel to the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Virgie Long, 110 South Vine street at 5 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be William McCarty, Tom Meagher, O.W. Kinnear, Glen C. Finley, George Mundell, and Carl Maring.
