PASSES AWAY SATURDAY EVENING AT THE ADVANCED AGE OF 84 YEARS

John Spry was born in Knox County, Ohio, September 17, 1823, died at his home in Brighton October 5, 1907, aged 84 years and 18 days. He passed his early manhood in Ohio, coming with his parents to Illinois in 1851. He lived with his parents until 1852, at which time he was married to Miss Susan Farr, who preceded him to the Glory Land, passing away, July 3rd 1889. To this union ten children were born, five of whom are dead and five living. S.B. and J.O. of Hedrick, Luther of Brighton, and Rebecca and J.A. of Canton, Illinois, remain to mourn the loss of a loving father. Deceased was again married in June 1891 to Mrs. Elisabeth Henderson, who passed away in Feb. 1905 and was laid to rest in the Brighton Cemetery. Immediately after his first marriage, deceased settled on a farm in Illinois where he lived the greater portion of his life, until his removal to Brighton in 1894. He enlisted in Company F One Hundred and Third Illinois Infantry in 1862, and after active service of three years, was honorably discharged in 1865. Deceased was a member of the United Brethern Church for the last fifty years never having changed his membership. He took an active part in all religious matters, and at a ripe old age, has at last gone to reap his reward.

The funeral services were conducted from the M.E. Church in Brighton, Iowa Sunday afternoon, the Rev. R.A. Bruce Officiating.
