Silas "Jay" FINKE Jr, 73, of Crawfordsville, died Sunday Sept 15, 2002 at University of Iowa Hospitals, following a sudden illness.

Funeral services were held Sept. 18, 2002 at the United Church of Crawfordsville with Rev. Diana Bishop officiating. Burial in Cambrian Cemetery.

Mr. Finke was born Jan. 6, 1929, in Washington Co, to Silas L. and Velta (BEAUCHAMP) FINKE. He married Audrey REES, Dec. 1, 1949, in Louisa Co.

Mr. FINKE graduated from Wyman High School. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He farmed north of Crawfordsville all of his life. He was a member of the United Church of Crawfordsville and was active in several community committees. He was a member of the Crawfordsville Lions Club for 44 years and had perfect attendance. He served as 9x4 District Governor of the Lions from 1978 to 1980 and was also on the District Cabinet of Lions for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Iowa Valley Antique Car Association. He served on the Washington County Hospital board, the Washington County ASCS board and the Review Board. He had many hobbies including his Model A car and Christmas lights.

Mr. Finke is survived by his wife, Audrey, of Crawfordville; one son, Randy Finke and wife Linda of Crawfordsville; one son-in-law Andy ROWE of Marengo; four grandchldren, Katelyn and Josh Anholt of Crawfordsville and Adam and Amy ROWE of Marengo; one sister Madonna JACK of Carisle; and two brothers, Clyde FINKE of Iowa City and Merle FINKE of Crawfordsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter Julie ROWE.
