James H. "Jim" Godwin, age 72, of Washington, Iowa died Sunday, October 31, 2010 at his residence following a lingering illness.

Jim was born July 10, 1938 in Washington, Iowa the son of Cloyce E. and Lucille (Mineart) Godwin. He attended school in Pleasant Plain, Iowa and graduated from Pleasant Plain High School in 1956. Jim attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He was united in marriage to Joan Eagle on June 15, 1963 in Riverside, Iowa.

Jim lived most of his life in Iowa City prior to moving to Washington in 2004. He worked at Lubins Pharmacy in Iowa City and at May Drug in Cedar Rapids. He owned and managed two service stations in Iowa City. Jim later taught Automotive Technology at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids until his retirement in 1998. Following his retirement he and his wife opened the Brighton Outdoorsman in 2003.

Jim was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the National Rifle Association, the Winchester Antique Collectors Association and the Kirkwood Pioneers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting antiques and spending time with his family.

Jim is survived by his wife Joan Godwin of Washington, Iowa; brother-in-law Don Grimm of Atalissa, Iowa; niece Kimberly Dickey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nephew Kevin Grimm of Iowa City, Iowa; and five great nieces and nephews including Keeley, Berkely and Lainey Grimm and Jacob and Tatum Dickey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Ruth Grimm.
