Stanley Wallace, 69, dies

Stanley E. Wallace, 69, of Washington, died July 4, 1993, at the Washington county Hospital of a sudden illness.

Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home, Washington, with the Rev. Larry Kittle and the Rev. Jack Bonham officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington.

Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday and the family will meet friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established.

Stanley Wallace was born April 24, 1924, in Washington, to Oren and Gertrude (Messenger) Wallace. He graduated from Washington High School. He married Catherine Little on Sept. 6, 1947, in Washington. He was a lifetime resident of Washington. He was employed as a sales manager of Iowa Southern Utilities until his retirement in 1990.

He was a veteran of World War II. During his time in the Navy, he received the Purple Heart, Air Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He enjoyed camping, traveling, woodworking and bowling.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Wallace, Washington; two sons, Roger Wallace, Davenport, and Joseph Wallace, Washington; one daughter Kathy Breuer, Burlington; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Nelle Brown, Washington, and Juanita Zieglowsky, Washington; and his stepmother, Mamie Wallace.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
