David E. Jones, 75, dies in Kansas

Former Washington area resident David E. Jones, 75, Kismet, Kan., died Dec. 13, 1997 following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Craig Bryan officiating. Visitation started at noon Monday at the funeral home. Family visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Meade district Hospital, Meade, Kan. 67864.

Mr. Jones was born April 8, 1922 in Washington to Hiram R. and Hattie M. (Riley) Jacobs. He was adopted and raised by Harry and Hazel (Fisher) Jones.

Mr. Jones married Betty E. Hiller on Nov. 29, 1941. He later married Maxine Buck Wall in September 1958.

He was a truck driver for Nation-By-Products for 15 years. Later, Mr. Jones worked in plumbing and heating in Muscatine and Columbus Junction while living in those communities.

Mr. Jones also lived in Wellman before moving to Kismet, Kan., in August 1991.

He was a member of the Marion Avenue Baptist Church and the Moose Lodge in Muscatine.

Survivors include: four sons, John Jones of Springfield, La., Robert Jones of Iowa City, Max Jones of West Branch, and Randy Jones of Des Moines; eight daughters, Frances Schooley of Windsor. Ill., Carolyn Swank of Kismet, Kan., Donna Cunningham of Keokuk, Hattie Behrens of Harlan, Ramona Vanderah of Baton Rouge, La., Nancy Jarvis of Unionville, Mo., Sue Ann Vest of Quincy, Ill, and Diana Vest of Wellman; seven brothers, Robert Jacobs, Jr. and Clifford Jacobs, both of Richland, Eddie Elmer Jones and Junior Jones, both of Washington, Edgar Lee Jones of Pacific Palisades, Calif., and Ronnie Eugene Jones of Mt. Pleasant and Harry of Rock Island, Ill.; three sisters, Marie Stagers of Richland, Mary Lou Swailes of Wayland and Sarah Ellen Grisham of Burlington; 36 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maxine in 1981, a son, a daughter, one brother, a sister, a grandson and a great-grandson.
