Robert Junior Jacobs

Robert Junior Jacobs, 82, of Rubio, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Washington county Hospital in Washington, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Ainsworth Community Church in Ainsworth, with the Rev. Scott Nesbitt officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Crawfordsville Cemetery. Visitation begins at noon on Thursday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will receive friends from6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Washington County.

Mr. Jacobs was born Feb. 8, 1921, in Washington, to Hiram and Hattie (Riley) Jacobs. He married Hazel Keller, Feb. 12, 1946, in Clinton, Mo.

Mr. Jacobs graduated from Cotter High School. He was a World War II veteran. He was a custodian at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City for 31 years, retiring in 1988. He worked as a farm hand until 1962. He and his wife operated the Crawfordsville Cafe for a few years. He also operated a small salvage yard in Crawfordsville. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a member of the Crawfordsville Lions Club and the American Legion of Crawfordsville. He lived most of his life in Riverside, and also lived in Washington. He had lived in Rubio the last 10 years.

Mr. Jacobs is survived by three sons, Robert Jacobs and wife Dorothy of Ainsworth, Roger Jacobs and special friend Diana Stevens of Ottumwa, and Ronald Jacobs and wife Paula of Conesville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Clifford Jacobs of Rubio.
