Gerald E. Edwards dies

Gerald E. Edwards, 69, of 617 N. Ave B in Washington, died Sunday, Jan 30, at his home. He had been in failing health since September but his death was unexpected.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Serman-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, with the Rev. Greg Berkey in charge. Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.

He was born Oct. 20, 1913, in Washington County's Brighton Township, the son of Charles and Elsie Messenger Edwards. He was reared and educated in Washington and married Maybelle M. Malik on May 17, 1934, in Washington.

Mr. Edwards was a member of the First Baptist Church and the IOOF Lodge. He was employed for 16 years by Wilson Coal and Ice Co. and for 26 years by Freshwaters Feed and Grain, retiring in 1980.

Surviving are: his wife, Maybelle, of Washington; a daughter, Mrs. Carl (Lavonne) Herrman of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandsons; and a brother, Raymond of Muscatine.
