Edsall Brown dies unexpectedly Friday

Edsal D. Brown, 64 of 947 South Second Avenue in Washington, was dead on arrival at the Washington County Hospital Friday evening, April 20, 1979. He had not been well the last few years, but death was unexpected.

Mr. Brown had owned and operated Brown's Courtesy Corner in Washington a number of years, had served as bookkeeper for Messer Oil for 15 years until retiring two years ago, and was a former Company Commander of the 872nd Ordinance C. army reserve unit in Washington.

The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Berkey in charge. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Washington County Ambulance. Visitation begins at the funeral home Saturday evening.

Mr. Brown was born in Washington Dec. 5, 1914, a son of Clyde V. and Nellie Doolittle Brown. He was raised here and graduated from Washington Junior College. He married Nelle Wallace July 12, 1942.

He was a member of the Washington Masonic Lodge, the First Baptist Church and the Reserve Officers Association.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Thomas of Carbondale, Colo., and James of Omaha, Nebraska; one grandson, Nathan; two sisters, Ruth Glaves of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Margaret Van Dyke of Weslaco, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul.
