James "Bill" Sands, 88, of Columbus Junction, died Tuesday Dec 30, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Mr. Sands was born June 15, 1920, in Amberg, Wis., the son of Glen and Edna (Moore) Sands. He married Kathleen Smith on June 15, 1946, in Columbus Junction.

Surviving are his wife; one brother, Sam Sands of Columbus Junction, three sisters, Charlotte Morrison of Columbus Junction, Jean Wykert of Burlington, and Joan Grim and husband Everett of Nichols; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bob Sands and Dick Sands; and three sisters, Myrna Hazelett, Lois Boyd, and Betty June Sands.
