Donald Joseph Fosdick, 35, well known Keota business man died Monday at 1:50PM in the Keokuk County Hospital at Sigourney. He had been injured at 10AM Monday when the pickup he was driving left the road two miles north and one fourth mile west of What Cheer.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10AM in St Mary's Catholic Church with Rev C.F. Kempker in charge. Burial will be in St Mary's Cemetery. The Parish rosary will be tonight at 8:00PM in the Powell Funeral Home at Keota.
Officers who investigated the accident said Mr. Fosdick was driving a pickup truck pulling a fertilizer trailer. The trailer apparently started to weave back and forth, and the pickup left the road and overturned, hitting a utility pole. Mr Fosdick was thrown out of the truck.
He was born Apr 7, 1932 at Keota, a son of Charles and Eva Palm Fosdick. He was married Jan 30, 1950 to Kay Myers at Kinross and was employed at the Kinross Lumber for four years. He then was associated with Howard Greiner in organizing the Ke-Wash Fertilizer Co. For a time he held an interest in Goode Fertilizer at Fairfield, but later sold this interest and started fertilizer plants at South English and Hedrick. In the fall of 1965 he sold to Sinclair Petroleum Chemical Co. and had been working recently as a districk manager for that firm.
He was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church at Keota and the Elks Club at Fairfield. He was president of the Keota Investment Club, and president of St Mary's School Board.
Surviving are his wife; five children, Brad, Hal, Kirby, Barry and Julie all at home; his mother, Mrs. Charles Fosdick of Keota: three sisters: Mrs. Marcella Monaghan, Keota, Sister Mary Anita, Des Moines, Kay Fulrath, Cedar Rapids: and four brothers: Gerald, Bettendorf, Richard of Indiana, Francis of Vienna, Va, Leonard of Cedar Rapids. His father and infant brother preceded him in death.
