Death of Mrs Perley, a Pensioner of War of 1812

Mrs. Elizabeth Perley was born in St. Johns, New Brunswick, April 24th, 1800, and died at the home of Mrs. Mary Perley near Spring Hill, August 28, 1897, age 97 years, 4 months and 4 days. Her father, Henry Earl, served in the revolutionary war under General Anthony Wayne. She was married to F.P. Perley, a soldier of the war of 1812, Aug. 1st, 1825 and was one of the ten surviving pensioners of the war of 1812. Two of her sons, Wm. and George, served in the late Civil war. She was the mother of 7 children, 5 sons and 2 daughters, two dying in infancy. In 1873 she with her husband came to Iowa to make their home with Wm., their eldest son, where she resided until her death. Her husband died in 1881 and her son Wm. in 1888. Four of her children survive her. A.C. of Des Moines, George of Summerset, David of Sioux City, and Mrs. J. A. Knubbe of Indianapolis, Ind. She leaves 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Grandma Perley had seen many of the vicissitudes of life. She has seen nearly every great invention of our age. She was a woman of sterling integrity and "none knew her but to love her." She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and a consistent christian. "She rests from her labors and her works do follow her."
