Mary M. Carpenter
(December 30, 1833 – January 6, 1900)

Mrs. Mary M. Carpenter was born in Richland County, Ohio, Dec. 30, 1833, and died at Swan, Iowa, Jan 6, 1900, aged 66 years and 6 days. She came to Iowa with her parents, John and Phoebe Parker when but a child. She was united in marriage to U. A. Carpenter in Hartford, Ia., April 16, 1850. To this union were born twelve children, seven sons and five daughters, ten of whom are still living and who mourn the loss of a tender and affectionate mother. She joined the Baptist church in Hammondsburg, Ia., in 1860 and endeavored to love and obey her Savior. The funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church at Sandyville, Sunday at 1 o’clock by Rev. Flesher, of Pleasantville. Interment in Sandyville Cemetery.
