Ella Barbara Bliss
(September 4, 1877 – December 30, 1899)

Ella Barbara Quante was born Sept. 4th, 1877, in Franklin County, Ind., and died at Lacona, Ia., Dec. 30th, 1899. She came with her parents and family to this place in 1882 where she resided till death called her away. She was married to Wm. Bliss, April 6th, 1898. About five years ago she was converted and joined the M. E. church at Lacona, Iowa, and has ever since followed the Savior. Several months ago in speaking with her husband of the possibility of her death she said, “If it is God’s will to take me and leave the little babe, I am resigned to his will. She leaves to mourn her loss, a husband, a little babe two weeks old, a father, three sisters and two brothers, her mother having preceded her to the better land some thirteen years ago. Although she suffered intensely for several days, her last moments were so peaceful and quiet that it seemed like going to sleep. All that loving hands could do was done to alleviate suffering and if possible restore her to health, but death claimed its own and her remains were laid to rest in the old Lutheran cemetery by the side of her mother, to await the resurrection morn when we shall meet her with joy, and sorrow never more shall come. The funeral services were held from her late home, attended by a large company of friends and neighbors, the sermon being from Rev. 14:13, “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, said the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” The services were conducted by her pastor, T. G. Aten. Source – Indianola Herald, Indianola, Iowa, Thurs., Jan 11, 1900, p.4
