Mrs. Arthur Richey
Sarah Alice Smith, daughter of George and Margaret Smith, was born in Decatur County, Iowa, September 30, 1872. She departed this life at her home in VanWert, Iowa, December 16, 1938, at the age of 66 years, 2 months, and 16 days. Her early school days were spent in Decatur County. She later attended Simpson College at Indianola. She was married to Arthur B. Richey February 6, 1901. They began their new home on a farm near New Virginia, coming to Decatur County in 1910, where they have since resided. Mrs. Richey came into the Methodist Church in 1910, under the pastorate of Rev. M. T. Butterfield and was a faithful and efficient member. She was a charter member of the Kensington club of VanWert. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Weldon Chapter.
She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, A. B. Richey, two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Mattie Imhuff, Alfred G. Smith, and Carrie Redman, all of VanWert, and Guy Smith of Ottumwa; 14 nieces and nephews and 13 grandnieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church at VanWert on Dec. 18, at 11 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. Mrs. Wolfe Cox and the Rev. Risinger, pastors of VanWert. Interment was in the Norwalk Cemetery at Norwalk.
