Charles B. Guest
(August 28, 1867 – December 21, 1938)

Indianola Tribune, Indianola, Iowa, Wed., Jan 4, 1939, p.5
Charles B. Guest, son of Joseph E. and Jane Guest, was born near Raritan, N. J., Aug. 28, 1867, and died in the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Dec 21, 1938, at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 23 days. His early childhood was spent in Illinois. Later he moved with his family to Adams County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. After completing his education in the rural schools he attended Simpson College, graduating in 1896. A few years later he attended Garrett Biblical Institute in Evanston, Ill., from which he graduated in 1901. Immediately after finishing his college education, he took up the work of the Christian ministry, entering the Des Moines Conference on trial in 1896. His entire period of preaching was within the Des Moines Conference, where he served the church faithfully for 42 years. He retired from Tennant, Ia., in Sept. 1938, and moved to Indianola. Ia.
He was united in marriage to Esther Youtz of Des Moines in 1898. He is survived by his widow: two sons, Arthur of LaGrange, Ill., and Harlan of Chicago, Ill.; one granddaughter of LaGrange, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Little of Corning, and Mrs. George Mahr of Indianola; one brother, Dr. H. Q. Guest of Elgin, Ill., and a host of friends who enjoyed the fellowship of the ministry with him, and many people on the various charges who feel they have lost a true friend. Mr. Guest was utterly devoted to his task, faithful in this trust, grateful that he was “allowed of God to preach the Gospel,” a man of strong purpose, and true to the responsibilities that the ministry place upon him. He was of a quiet, poised disposition, ever solicitous of his family and their well-being. Like the master whom he served, he thought “not to be ministered unto but to minister.” Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Indianola, Friday, Dec 23, conducted by the Rev. W. M. Scheuermann, and assisted by the Rev. Dr. A. E. Slothower, the Rev. Dr. R. E. Shaw, and the Rev. E. A. Moore, long-time friends who spoke words of tribute. Interment was in the Indianola Cemetery.
