Death Takes Heavy Toll In Milo Neighborhood
Mary Ann Shilling, daughter of Mary and Andrew Shilling was born in Marion County, Iowa, February 15, 1861 and departed this life at her home in Milo, Iowa, February 16, 1939, at the age of 78 years and one day. She had lived her life in Marion and Warren Counties. She was united in marriage to Jourdan B. Reins at Knoxville, Iowa, December 7, 1879. There were born to them two children, Mrs. Robert Williams, who preceded her mother in death, and Ora Reins of Des Moines, Iowa. In 1882 some three years after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Reins came to Warren County and have continued their residence here in various places ever since. They have lived in Milo 29 years. Mrs. Reins, while living in Sandyville, made her confession of the Christ and united with the Christian Church. After moving to Milo she put her membership in the Presbyterian Church where she held it until last Easter, when she placed her membership in the Methodist Church here in Milo. Mrs. Reins, while her health would permit was active in the church and loved to come to God’s house for Divine worship. Her personal Christian life was a close friendship and communion with her Master. It was only five weeks ago that she stood up as the family was passing to dinner and sang “Lord I’m Coming Home,” then offered prayer. Of her it can be truthfully said she was a friend to all and interested in the help of all. But especially her life was lived in the home as a faithful wife and loving mother. She not only raised her own children but upon the death of her daughter, she took into her home the granddaughter, Mary, and reared her to womanhood. Mrs. Reins was the seventh child of a family of twelve of whom two sisters and one brother survive: Mrs. Emma Hanley and Mrs. Ida Dunham of Knoxville, Iowa and Ed Shilling of Turner, Oregon, these with the husband, J. B. Reins, the son, Ora Reins of Des Moines, the two grandchildren, Mrs. Mary Town of Milo and Virgil Reins of Chariton, and three great grandchildren, together with other relatives and friends remain to mourn their loss.
“The lights are out in the mansions of clay. The curtains are drawn for the dweller’s away. She gently slipped o’er the threshold by night, to make her abode in the City of Light.”
Funeral services were held at the Milo Methodist Church Sunday, February 19, Rev. O. G. Orcutt, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. C. C. Donaghue. Interment was made at Sandyville.
Card of Thanks – We beg to express our sincere thanks to all those who gave so freely or their aid and sympathy during the illness and death of Mary Ann Reins. The Reins Family and Mr. and Mrs. O. Fair Town
