Cheryl Lee Koch
(April 11, 1955 - March 12, 2023)

A lesson plan for a great life. Cheryl Lee Koch was born on April 11, 1955, in Sigourney, Iowa to Harold and Cathreen Grimm Coffman. She joined her sister Karen (Bill) Wadsworth and brother Richard (Barb) Coffman and was later joined by her brother Robert (Darlas Shockley) Coffman. Cheryl attended English Valley High School where she graduated in 1973 and went on to attend Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. It was while attending Simpson, that she met and later married her husband of 47 years, Donald Koch Jr. on December 6, 1975. After graduating from college, Cheryl began her distinguished teaching career in 1976 with the Indianola Community School District. Cheryl started her career at the Indianola Middle School and then in 1983, moved to Whittier Elementary, where she taught 3rd grade until 2010. While teaching, Cheryl obtained her master’s degree from Drake University and raised two children of her own, Chad and Matt Koch. While Chad and Matt were growing up, you could always find her supporting them at all their various school or sporting activities, but most certainly would find her seated in the bleachers of one of their wrestling meets. After teaching, Cheryl held several jobs which included working at Christopher & Banks, the Grandview University bookstore, Younkers, and Shoe Sensation. Over the years, Cheryl was actively involved in several organizations and numerous committees including the P.E.O. Chapter JV and the Indianola P.T.O. Cheryl loved watching her two sons wrestle, spending time in a good book, crafting, planting flowers, but most importantly, she loved spending time with and watching her 5 grandchildren, Hailey Ann, Jaycee Paige, Ava Grace, Kasen James and Addie Lynn grow up. Cheryl passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Sunday, March 12, 2023 and was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, a brother, and a brother-in-law. Celebration of Life Services for Cheryl will be held at 11 a.m., March 25, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. The family will greet friends from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to services. Inurnment of cremains will be held at a later date in the Indianola I.O.O.F Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to P.E.O. Chapter JV, the Indianola P.T.O. or the Indianola Mat Tribe. [This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/]
