Services for Carol Jean “Jeanie” Mowrer, 80, of Norwalk, who passed away Friday, March 17, 2023 in Perry, IA will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. The family will greet friends prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Brethren Cemetery, Dallas Center, IA.
Carol Jean “Jeanie” was born September 1,1942 to Glenn and Dorothy Hawbaker. She grew up on a farm in rural Yale, Ia. In 1959 she graduated from Dawson High School. She married the love of her life, Les, June 14, 1959. Jeanie and Les were married 63yrs. They raised two children together.
Jeanie loved people and had an infectious smile. She shared that smile while working several retail and food service jobs over the years. Her favorite job was working as a shift manager at McDonald’s.
Jeanie also had a wonderful imagination and spent countless hours playing pretend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She found joy in planning parties, playing cards with friends, singing hymns and leading a Bible study at the nursing home where her mother resided.
Jeanie is survived by her husband, Les Mowrer; daughter, Janene (Jason) Grimes; grandchildren, Christie (Jeremy) Sweet, Mike (Angie) Grimes, Jacob Mowrer, Michael (Jessica) Cooper and Alex Mohler; great-grandchildren, Madi, Parker, Lily, Jacoby and Bria Sweet, Lexi, Emily and Zoe Grimes, Ella, Amelia and Sofia Cooper; brothers, Bob (Joy) Hawbaker and Rick (Karen) Hawbaker along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Mowrer; parents, Glenn and Dorothy Hawbaker. Memorials may be given in her name to Perry Lutheran Home or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
