(January 11, 1935 -October 25, 2020)

Family services for Richard “Pete” Berry,85, who passed away Sunday, October 25, 2020, will be held Thursday, October 29, 2020. Friends may join the family on our Livestream beginning at 11 a.m. on Pete’s obituary page of Overton Funeral Home’s website. Burial will be in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Pete worked on a farm for a short time before deciding to help out his brother-in-law as a heavy equipment operator. He then worked for the City of Indianola Public Works, and while working for the Public Works Department he was approached by the Police Chief Dewey Whitlow who asked Pete if he would consider transferring over to the Police Department While working for the Indianola Police Department he attained the rank of Lieutenant and after serving 31 years retired. His service to the community would continue as he became a crossing guard and served two terms on the City Council. Pete loved the City of Indianola as was evident by his commitment of serving over 6o years to the great citizens of Indianola.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Berry; son Roger (Lori) Berry; grandchildren, Chad Berry, Alissa (Kevin) Hatch, Andrea Berry, and Jordan (Jeni) Berry; great-grandchildren, Oliver Hatch, Arya Hatch, Jace Coughennower and Mia Onstot; brothers Don (Isabel) Berry and Cecil Berry. He was preceded in death by his son, Rick Berry; parents, William and Leatha Berry; sister, Audrey Kinser, infant sister Doris Berry; brother, Hank Berry.
Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Overton Funeral Home, where family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. to greet friends. Memorials may be given to in his name to the American Diabetes Association.
